又是一年高校畢業(yè)季，受新冠疫情影響，當?shù)貢r間5月20日，美國名校哥倫比亞大學（Columbia University）為2020屆畢業(yè)生舉行了一場特殊而難忘的線上畢業(yè)典禮。這也是哥大建校史上首次舉行虛擬畢業(yè)典禮。
This year, the excitement usually associated with graduation was confined to a live stream for graduates at Columbia University. It’s a trend that will take shape around the U.S.as colleges and universities head into commencement season in the COVID-19 era.

Students put their own personalized spin on the event, sharing photos and videos of their accomplishments in various montages. Tony award winner Ben Platt was also on hand to sing them out.

校長布林格在致辭中表示，疫情之下大學承擔起了更大的社會責任，將知識與行動結合在一起抗疫。
“我們也見證了我們的同事為關愛受到疫情影響的人，所展現(xiàn)出的令人驚嘆的勇氣、無私奉獻的精神以及韌性。將知識與行動結合起來的力量，從未如此鮮活。我稱之為大學的第四個目標，其他三個分別為科研、教育和公共服務。”
“We also have witnessed from our colleagues a stunning display of the courage, selfless dedication and resilience needed to care for those whom the pandemic has afflicted. The power of joining knowledge and action has never been so vivid. I call this the fourth purpose of a university, along with research, education and public service.” Columbia University President Lee C. Bollinger said at the virtual ceremony.

20日，哥倫比亞大學發(fā)布的一份研究報告指出，如果美國能夠在3月份提前一周采取社交隔離等防控措施，死亡人數(shù)就可能減少3.6萬人。
而如果當時能提前兩周（3月1日）就宣布“封城”以及限制社交活動，那么可以減少約83%的死亡病例。

If the United States had begun imposing social distancing measures one week earlier than it did in March, about 36,000 fewer people would have died in the coronavirus outbreak, according to new estimates from Columbia University disease modelers.
And if the country had begun locking down cities and limiting social contact on March 1, two weeks earlier than most people started staying home, the vast majority of the nation’s deaths — about 83 percent — would have been avoided, the researchers estimated.
特朗普在當?shù)貢r間24日的《Full Measure》節(jié)目采訪中回應此事稱，發(fā)布這份報告的機構“可恥”，“哥大是一個自由派的、可恥的機構，才會寫出這樣的話。”
“Columbia University is a liberal, disgraceful institution, to write that,” Trump said in the interview broadcast Sunday.
