近一段時(shí)間，美國疫情形勢(shì)不容樂觀。美國約翰斯·霍普金斯大學(xué)統(tǒng)計(jì)數(shù)據(jù)顯示，截至美國東部時(shí)間10日16時(shí)30分，美國新冠肺炎確診病例已超過1020萬例。與此前一天差不多相同時(shí)間統(tǒng)計(jì)數(shù)據(jù)相比，美國單日新增確診病例超16萬，相當(dāng)于每秒鐘就有近2名美國人確診新冠肺炎。

Dr. Anthony Fauci said Monday that he plans to remain in his role as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases（NIAID）through the remainder of the Trump administration and into President-elect Joe Biden's administration.

"I have no intention of leaving," Fauci told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "This is an important job. I've been doing it now for a very long time. I've been doing it under six presidents."

"And my goal is to serve the American public, no matter what the administration is." Fauci said.

此前11月2日，特朗普在佛羅里達(dá)州競(jìng)選集會(huì)上發(fā)表演講，抱怨封鎖措施和媒體對(duì)疫情的報(bào)道時(shí)，臺(tái)下支持者開始齊聲高呼“炒掉福奇（Fire Fauci）”。



見此情形，特朗普回應(yīng)人群說：“可別告訴任何人，不過讓我等大選過后再說吧。謝謝你們的建議。”

聽聞此事，拜登則在次日的俄亥俄州競(jìng)選集會(huì)上力挺福奇稱：“昨晚特朗普說要炒掉福奇，真棒啊是不是？但我有個(gè)更好的主意。大選選我，我會(huì)雇用福奇，炒掉特朗普！”

根據(jù)BBC及《赫芬頓郵報(bào)》報(bào)道，即便特朗普在大選中獲勝，也很難像解雇白宮工作人員或內(nèi)閣成員一樣解雇福奇。因?yàn)楦Ｆ娌⒎钦?wù)官員（political appointee），而是在職公務(wù)員（career civil service employee），自1984年起就在美國國家過敏癥和傳染病研究所擔(dān)任所長。

不過，雖然不能解雇福奇，但白宮可以削弱福奇對(duì)公眾的影響力。大選前在接受《華盛頓郵報(bào)》采訪時(shí)，福奇就曾表示他已被限制接觸總統(tǒng)或其他政府官員。他對(duì)公共健康問題的建議及方針，如果不被白宮采納，對(duì)公眾產(chǎn)生影響就微乎其微了。

However, just because Fauci can't be removed, it doesn't mean the White House hasn't already taken steps to curtail his influence. 

As the director noted in a recent interview with the Washington Post, his access to the president and other policymakers has been drastically curtailed. His recommendations and suggested guidelines on public health matters will have little effect if no one hears or heeds them.
