近日，BBC記者在采訪巴巴多斯女總理米婭·莫特利（Mia Mottley）時，稱加勒比地區(qū)是美國的“后花園”↓

莫特利當(dāng)場糾正道：“我們不是美國的后花園，我們是鄰居，你這樣說會造成錯誤印象”。



The Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, hit back during a BBC interview when the reporter referred to the Caribbean as “America’s backyard”. “We like to say neighborhood, because they get the wrong impression with that,” Mottley replied.

緊接著，BBC記者又把話題引向了中國，稱網(wǎng)絡(luò)上有人說巴巴多斯在“討好”中國：

“我們在社交媒體上收到一個網(wǎng)友提問說：‘我們很想知道為什么巴巴多斯如此迎合(ingratiated with)中國。” 接著她又追問道：“所以你們是想從一個超級大國投奔另一個超級大國嗎？（So are you swapping from one superpower to another?）”



對此，莫特利反駁道，顯然提問的人不了解我們的歷史。1977年，我們和中國建交，已經(jīng)44年了。
“Well, once again I regret that the person who asked the question doesn't know our history.
In 1977, Barbados established relations with the People's Republic of China. This is 44 years ago.”



接著，莫特利表示：“存在于這個世界上的任何國家，都需要和其他國家建立聯(lián)系。而中國顯然是一個世界大國。”
“Any country that lives in this world today, to exist in this world ought to have relations with every country. And China is clearly a global power.”

之后，BBC記者繼續(xù)追問：“但不光是巴巴多斯和中國走得越來越近，整個加勒比地區(qū)都是(But it's not just Barbados that's moving closer to China, it's the whole of the Caribbean.)。中國在許多方面進行投資……”

莫特麗則再次犀利回應(yīng)稱，中國在全世界都有投資，“而你只關(guān)注非洲和加勒比地區(qū)，不認可中國在歐洲和北大西洋國家中扮演的角色，這就有點虛偽了。說明我們只是被你們看成了棋子，而不是具有平等能力，能夠決定自己命運的國家。這很遺憾。”



“China has investment across the world,” Mottley told the BBC, “For you to focus on Caribbean or Africa with China, without recognizing the role China is playing in Europe or in other North Atlantic countries, is a bit disingenuous, and really reflects more that we are being seen as pawns, regrettably, rather than countries with equal capacity to determine our destiny.”
