據(jù)英國廣播公司（BBC）14日?qǐng)?bào)道，蘇格蘭國家美術(shù)館在一次展覽前對(duì)畫作進(jìn)行X光檢查時(shí)，在文森特·梵高（Vincent van Gogh）早期的一幅畫作背面發(fā)現(xiàn)了他的自畫像。這幅自畫像已被隱藏了一個(gè)多世紀(jì)不為人知。↓↓

A previously unknown self-portrait by Vincent van Gogh has been discovered hidden on the back of another painting. Experts at the National Galleries of Scotland made the find when the canvas was X-rayed before an exhibition.

X光圖像可見，這幅自畫像中一個(gè)留著胡子的男人（梵高）戴著一頂寬邊帽子，脖子上松松地系著一條領(lǐng)巾。他的眼睛直視前方，右臉籠罩在陰影里，左耳清晰可見。

It shows a bearded sitter in a brimmed hat with a neckerchief loosely tied at the throat. He fixes the viewer with an intense stare, the right side of his face in shadow and his left ear clearly visible.
 
據(jù)介紹，這幅自畫像藏在梵高1885年的作品《農(nóng)婦頭像》的背面，被多層膠水和紙板覆蓋。畫廊專家目前正在研究，如何在不損壞《農(nóng)婦頭像》的前提下，移除膠水和硬紙板，這將需要精細(xì)的保護(hù)工作。

The hidden self-portrait was covered by layers of glue and cardboard on the back of an earlier work called Head of a Peasant Woman. 

Experts at the gallery said it may be possible to uncover the hidden self-portrait, but that the process of removing the glue and cardboard will require delicate conservation work. Research is ongoing to work out how that can be done without harming Head of a Peasant Woman.

英國獨(dú)立電視臺(tái)（ITV）介紹，如果這幅自畫像能被安全地揭開，那么就有望看到梵高原本使用的顏色。

If the image can be safely uncovered, it’s hoped the colors the artist used will be revealed.

However, visitors to an exhibition in Edinburgh will be able to see the X-ray image for the first time through a specially-crafted lightbox.

BBC介紹，梵高生前為了節(jié)省開支，經(jīng)常重復(fù)使用畫布，他會(huì)把畫布翻過來，在另一面作畫。

梵高的畫作在他的有生之年并不暢銷，但他在1890年（時(shí)年37歲）去世后，卻成為了西方美術(shù)史上最著名和最受推崇的藝術(shù)家之一。

The Dutch artist often re-used canvases to save money, turning them over and then working on the other side.

His work did not sell during his lifetime and his fame came only after his death in 1890, at the age of 37. Van Gogh became one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history.

Head of a Peasant Woman shows a local woman from the town of Nuenen in the south of the Netherlands, where the artist lived from December 1883 to November 1885.

有人認(rèn)為，梵高后來搬到巴黎，接觸了法國印象派畫家的作品，在他職業(yè)生涯的關(guān)鍵時(shí)期繪制了背面的那副自畫像。

It is thought that Van Gogh later painted the self-portrait on the other side at a key moment in his career, after he moved to Paris and was exposed to the work of the French impressionists.
