近日，陜西西安電子科技大學(xué)對沒有家長陪同，獨(dú)自前來報到的學(xué)生授予“獨(dú)立新生獎”，符合要求的新生不僅能獲得獎狀，還能拿到學(xué)校發(fā)的文化衫↓

As the new academic year begins, freshmen are entering college campuses across the country, many of them accompanied by parents or other well-wishers. Xidian University in Xi'an city, Shaanxi province, has introduced a policy that has caught everyone's attention.
It will give away "Freshman Independence Award" to those who come to college alone, not accompanied by parents. Awardees will receive a certificate, a specially designed T-shirt, and a photograph of them entering the campus taken for memory.

中國日報報道指出，這一政策或許真的能鼓勵年輕人獨(dú)立。 然而，這并不意味著有父母陪伴就該被嘲笑。許多家庭都盼望著孩子上大學(xué)這一刻，也希望記錄下這一刻，因此家人們會陪伴新生前往大學(xué)所在的城市慶祝。
The policy might actually encourage the young to be independent. However, that does not mean those coming accompanied by parents should be scoffed at. Many families look forward to the moment when their child will go to college and would like to be there to capture the moment. Many families thus travel from one city to another with their college-going members in celebration.
那么，大學(xué)新生獨(dú)自報到是否值得獎勵呢？《中國新聞周刊》14日在微博上發(fā)起了投票，截至15日中午，參與投票的7.6萬人中，有6萬人認(rèn)為“沒必要，獨(dú)自報到和是否獨(dú)立無關(guān)”，有1.5萬人認(rèn)為“值得獎勵”。
從評論中可以看出，一些網(wǎng)友認(rèn)為，第一次由家長陪同來上大學(xué)，也很有儀式感，不一定要與獨(dú)立生活掛鉤↓
也有人對學(xué)校的做法表示理解↓

1. Self-sufficient
這個詞表示“自給自足的”，也可指“自立的”。
例：She’s disabled but very self-sufficient.
她身體有缺陷, 但很自立。
2. Stand on (one's) own (two) feet
站在自己的雙腳上，這個短語意思是堅(jiān)強(qiáng)獨(dú)立。
例：He never left home after high school, so he never learned to stand on his own two feet.

3. On one's own
