非裔美國人弗洛伊德之死引發(fā)的反種族歧視抗議活動已經(jīng)蔓延到美國以外，英國等國也相繼出現(xiàn)類似活動。期間，大英博物館也在推特上表明了態(tài)度，但是網(wǎng)友反應(yīng)卻有點出人意料。
6月5日，大英博物館發(fā)推，引用了館長Hartwig Fischer的話作為表態(tài)：
The British Museum wrote a post on Twitter on June 5, quoting its director Hartwig Fischer as saying "The British Museum stands in solidarity with the Black community throughout the world. Black Lives Matter."
“大英博物館堅定的與全世界黑人群體站在一起。黑人的命也是命。”
這只是大英博物館這一系列推文的第一條，在隨后幾條推送中還繼續(xù)寫道：大英博物館支持平權(quán)，反對暴力。并稱這都是社會必須解決的問題，必須糾正不平等現(xiàn)象。同時還呼吁大家一同傾聽、學(xué)習(xí)和行動。
在第四條推文中，則引用了博物館前任董事會成員Bonnie Greer的博客內(nèi)容，包括最近發(fā)生的一系列事件，總結(jié)如何才能做到“前事不忘，后事之師”。
然而，這樣一番看上去義正辭嚴(yán)的表態(tài)，卻沒有得到網(wǎng)友的認(rèn)可。
推特介紹為牛津當(dāng)代考古學(xué)教授的網(wǎng)友Dan Hicks，批評大英博物館言辭“空洞”，尤其是博物館方面一直拒絕歸還諸如貝寧青銅器這樣的文物。1897年在一次軍事行動中，成千上萬尼日利亞人被殺死，青銅器被奪走，然后就一直以‘戰(zhàn)利品’的形象展出。
Dan Hicks, a professor of contemporary archaeology at the University of Oxford, criticized the museum's pro-Black tweets as being just "hollow claims" as it continues to deny requests for the permanent restitution of artefacts such as the Benin Bronzes. "The (Benin Bronzes were) taken in 1897 in a military attack in which tens of thousands of Nigerian people were killed, and have been exhibited ever since as a monument to that 'victory,'" Hicks wrote on Twitter.
Hicks教授還指出：我們比任何時候都需要博物館——但是大英博物館的部分展品和收藏都是白人至上主義的‘紀(jì)念碑’，應(yīng)該像那些美國南方聯(lián)邦人物雕塑一樣被處理。對待文物的沉默和不作為，就是對種族主義的沉默和不作為。
據(jù)《環(huán)球時報》英文版網(wǎng)站報道，美國反種族歧視活動蔓延全球范圍，包括倫敦在內(nèi)的大城市人群也在抗議殖民主義。大英博物館推文中“黑人的命也是命”的內(nèi)容，也被視為支持反殖民主義。然而，大英博物館本身卻受益于英國19世紀(jì)的殖民擴(kuò)張活動。大部分藏品都來自被侵略的亞洲和非洲地區(qū)。
With the US' anti-racism movement has gone global, protests against colonialism have recently taken place in some of the world's big cities including London. The British Museum's Black Lives Matter tweets are also regarded as support for the anti-colonial protesters. However, the museum itself has benefited from British colonists' invasions in the 19th century. Most of its collections came from invaded regions including countries in Asia and Africa.
在大英博物館推特的評論區(qū)，很多網(wǎng)友都在呼吁歸還文物：
“大英博物館就是殖民主義，里面都是劫掠而來的東西，大英博物館是權(quán)力、控制以及歐洲中心論的圣殿。”
“不要僅僅和黑人社區(qū)站在一起，還有亞裔、印度裔、非洲裔這些人。把從我們這里拿走的，還給我們。”
據(jù)《藝術(shù)報》網(wǎng)站報道，館長Fischer表示將“繼續(xù)研究、學(xué)習(xí)并且解決英國的殖民歷史問題，以及這些問題對博物館的影響”，并且還將“重新考量、思索、平衡藏品的展出”，從而達(dá)到更大的多樣性。
Fischer pledged to “continue to research, acknowledge and address the colonial history of Britain and its impact on our institution” and to “reconsider, rethink and rebalance the display of the collection” to include a greater diversity.
只不過，在他的這份聲明中，依然沒有提到文物歸還的事情。
His statement did not include any mention of repatriation or restitution.
