據(jù)BBC報道，實際上，這并非特朗普首次被提名。早在2018年 “金特會”后，特朗普就曾被前述挪威議員提名為諾貝爾和平獎候選人。那次特朗普并未得獎。倒是美國前總統(tǒng)奧巴馬，在2009年自己第一個總統(tǒng)任期開始沒幾個月時就獲得了該獎項。不過，BBC的報道也指出，奧巴馬的提名和獲獎備受批評，有人認為當時的他還沒有做出過什么有影響力的事情。
This is not Trump's first such nomination, as Tybring-Gjedde submitted one along with another Norwegian official in 2018 following the US president's Singapore summit with Kim Jong-un. Trump did not win. Former US President Barack Obama won the prize in 2009 just months into his first term in office. Mr Obama's nomination - after just months on the job - was met with criticism in the US, with some arguing he had not made an impact worthy of the award.
特朗普也對奧巴馬的獲獎有“執(zhí)念”。2013年11月，特朗普曾在推特上攻擊奧巴馬，“根據(jù)剛出的新書《加倍》，我們的諾貝爾和平獎總統(tǒng)曾說過‘我真的很擅長殺人’。奧斯陸（挪威首都，諾貝爾和平獎委員會位于此）能收回這個獎項不？”
