近日，海關商品名錄中中國白酒的英文名字由原來的“Chinese distilled spirits”更改為“Chinese Baijiu”。去年4月，中國酒業(yè)協(xié)會正式向海關總署提出申請改名。
The Chinese spirit industry has hailed the official adoption of "Chinese Baijiu," as the new term for domestic distilled spirit labeling, following an application by the China Alcoholic Drinks Association (CADA) in April 2020.
行業(yè)專家稱，此舉目前不會立即對行業(yè)產生影響，但是長期來看會對全球市場有深遠影響。
Industry experts said that the move might not have an immediate impact on the industry but would be significant for the global market in the long run.

據(jù)悉，1月1日正式執(zhí)行的2021年《中華人民共和國進出口稅則》，已經對白酒的英文名稱進行了修改。
The official English name was used in the 2021 Import and Export Tariff of the People's Republic of China, which was implemented on January 1, media reports said.
白酒改英文名的新聞被很多網友關注，周四就成了微博熱搜話題。同時，不少網友也為這一改動叫好，并將之與豆腐和餃子的英文名“tofu”和“jiaozi”相提并論。
Word of the new term went viral online and became one of the top topics on Sina Weibo on Thursday, with many netizens applauding the change and saying the new name will be like tofu or jiaozi, which have entered the English language as generic terms.
專家稱，中國白酒此前有很多種譯名。盡管中國白酒占據(jù)全球蒸餾酒消費的三分之一，但是卻一直沒有一個正式的英文名稱，經常是以“中國烈酒”或“中國蒸餾酒”等名稱出現(xiàn)。
The famous Chinese spirit has gone under dozens of different names until now, experts said. Although accounting for one-third of global distilled spirit consumption, Chinese Baijiu has lacked a formal English name and was often named Chinese spirits, Chinese distilled spirits or Chinese liquor.
中國酒業(yè)協(xié)會稱，中國白酒與白蘭地(Brandy)、威士忌(Whisky)、伏特加(Vodka)、朗姆酒(Rum) 和金酒(Gin)一起并稱為世界六大蒸餾酒，不過由于沒有一個準確的官方名稱，經常會讓海外消費者感到困惑。
Chinese Baijiu, together with brandy, whisky, vodka, rum and gin, ranks among the top six distilled spirits in the world, according to the CADA. But for years, Chinese Baijiu lacked an official, accurate English name, causing confusion among overseas consumers.
面對現(xiàn)在的白酒譯名，網友們則開玩笑的表示，要是早點定了這個名字，英語四級考試也就不那么痛苦了。
還有網友建議，直接Baijiu就好。
酒是中國文化中的重要部分，中國釀酒歷史超過2000年。同時，中國白酒也與西方蒸餾酒的傳統(tǒng)概念完全不同。

2019年開始，中國白酒的系列國家標準《白酒工業(yè)術語》進行修訂，并對白酒的英文名稱進行了修訂：白酒，英文名字：Baijiu。隨后，Baijiu一詞出現(xiàn)在國際期刊、會議和文獻上，經學術界的努力和宣傳，也逐漸被行業(yè)專家和消費者認可接受。
In 2019, the English name of the Chinese distilled spirit, Chinese Baijiu, was revised by China's Standardization Administration in the recommended national standard, Terminology of Baijiu Industry. The name was gradually accepted and recognized by industry experts as well as consumers after the academia's efforts to popularize it in international journals, conferences and literature.
