UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to lift Plan B COVID restrictions in England.

He confirmed the intention to end self-isolation rules for people with coronavirus in the coming weeks. The legal requirement would lapse when the regulations expire on 24 March, he said, and that date could be brought forward.

"Our scientists believe it is likely that the Omicron wave has now peaked nationally... because of the extraordinary booster campaign, together with the way the public have responded to the Plan B measures, we can return to Plan A."
Johnson insisted Omicron is "not a mild disease for everyone", including the unvaccinated, and advised people to continue washing their hands, letting fresh air in, testing and self-isolating if positive.
Further announcements on the easing of travel rules are expected in the coming days, Boris Johnson added.
Plan B, introduced last month to slow the spread of the Omicron variant, includes ordering people to work from home, wear masks in public places and use COVID passes to enter some venues.

At a Downing Street press conference, Health Secretary Sajid Javid said: "This is a moment we can all be proud of. It's a reminder of what this country can accomplish when we all work together."
But, he said, this should not be seen as the "finish line" because the virus and future variants cannot be eradicated — instead "we must learn to live with Covid in the same way we live with flu".

Johnson cited official figures that showed infection prevalence levels falling from a record high. But scientists warned that cases could still turn higher again if people's behaviour returned to normal quickly.
"There's no guarantee that the levels are going to continue to fall as they are at the moment," University of Warwick virologist Lawrence Young told Reuters, who said he favoured a more gradual approach given that cases are still high.
"I just don't think we've got any room for complacency at the moment, but I do understand the economic imperative. People want to get back to normal."
