US President Donald Trump on June 9 suggested without evidence that a 75-year-old man who was knocked to the ground by police in Buffalo, N.Y., last week during a protest over George Floyd’s death was a member of antifa and that the incident was “a set up.” Video taken Thursday shows two officers pushing the man, Martin Gugino, who then falls and hits the back of his head on the pavement, causing him to bleed. Police initially claimed Gugino tripped. He remained hospitalized in serious but stable condition on June 8. In the video, Gugino, wearing a mask, is seen approaching a group of uniformed officers in protective gear as they move down the street in response to a protest. Gugino, who appears to have a cellphone in his hand, and two officers can be seen talking, though it's unclear what was said. Officers can be heard in the video yelling "move" before two of the officers then push Gugino, who stumbles backward and falls to the ground. The officers continue walking around Gugino, now on his back, as blood trickles from his head and pools onto the sidewalk. Demonstrators who witnessed the altercation can be heard yelling that the elderly man is bleeding, and an officer radios for a medic. “No one from law enforcement has even suggested anything otherwise. So we are at a loss to understand why the president of the United States would make such dark, dangerous, and untrue accusations against him.” 而紐約州長科莫也發(fā)聲,稱特朗普應(yīng)該為推文道歉,表現(xiàn)得有人性點(diǎn)吧↓↓↓ 圖源:CNBC視頻 “He should apologize for that tweet. Not a piece of proof. Totally personally disparaging. The man is still in the hospital. Show some decency. Show some humanity.” The officers, Robert McCabe and Aaron Torgalski, were initially suspended without pay, prompting dozens of fellow officers to step down from Buffalo’s Emergency Response Team unit in protest. McCabe and Torgalski were later arrested and charged with second-degree assault. They were released without bail.
