被偶像資助上大學(xué)是種什么樣的體驗(yàn)？這名“霉霉”泰勒·斯威夫特的粉絲肯定是有發(fā)言權(quán)的！

最近，住在倫敦的18歲女孩維多利亞·馬里奧 (Vitoria Mario) 在網(wǎng)上發(fā)起了眾籌，成績(jī)優(yōu)秀的她獲得了英國(guó)華威大學(xué)數(shù)學(xué)系的錄取通知書，然而由于家境貧寒，付不起學(xué)費(fèi)的她只得在網(wǎng)上向網(wǎng)友們求助。

Taylor Swift is making a fan's "Wildest Dreams" come true – and not just with her music.

Soon-to-be undergraduate Vitoria Mario found herself ineligible for student finance and instead set up a crowd-funding campaign to help support her through her maths degree at University of Warwick.

Despite an ambitious target of £40,000, Ms Mario was already doing well, having raised almost half the money, in the space of a week.

But then superstar pop star Taylor Swift saw her campaign, and, after shaking out her pockets, made up the shortfall.

On Aug 20, the "Folklore" singer donated £23,373 (approximately $27,486) to Vitoria Mario, who self-identified on her GoFundMe page as a "young Black 18 year old with a dream" of studying mathematics at the University of Warwick, in which she had received a conditional offer.

Mario, a young Black woman who was "unable to utter a word in English" when she moved to the UK from Portugal in 2016, still achieved top grades in her GCSEs — exams usually taken by English students at the end of their fifth year in secondary school — in 2018.

This summer, she achieved the highest grades possible in her final high school exams, receiving an offer to study Mathematics at the University of Warwick.

Mario said that her dream of becoming a mathematician not only gave her family a “chance at social mobility” but she also believed that her story could inspire others striving for their dreams.

Despite her academic accomplishments and work ethic, Mario said her lack of a "home" status as an immigrant from Portugal made her ineligible for maintenance loans or grants in the U.K., and her family's low income further complicated her ability to afford accommodation, equipment and the general living costs of her school.

Before setting up the fundraising page at the beginning of August, Mario said she had contacted 442 people at “top firms” to see if they could assist her or point her in the right direction but was “rejected or left without response.” 

She also went to some of London’s most affluent areas, such as Kensington, posting her story through letterboxes to no avail.

The singer's generosity means Vitoria can now concentrate on her maths degree and not have to juggle studying with two jobs.
