Queen Elizabeth said Tuesday that the royal family will address allegations of racism within Buckingham Palace made by Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex in their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The queen’s comments were her first since that interview, when Harry and Meghan Markle also detailed a lack of support by the royal family for the duchess’s mental health issues and media intrusion.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately,” she added.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

The duke replied: "We're very much not a racist family."

Asked whether he had spoken to Prince Harry since the Oprah interview, Prince William said: "No, I haven't spoken to him yet but I will do."

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Monday that President Biden believes it took “courage” for Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, to open up about their experiences as members of the British royal family and their decision to step down from their posts. 

“For anyone to come forward and speak about their own struggles with mental health and tell their own personal story, that takes courage,” Psaki was said a press briefing when asked whether Biden and first lady Jill Biden, who have a documented friendship with the prince, had any reaction to the bombshell CBS News interview Harry and Meghan had with Oprah Winfrey. 

“And that’s certainly something that the president believes, and he’s talked about the importance of investing in a lot of these areas that they’re committed to in the future as well,” Psaki continued.

Psaki also stressed the United States’s continued alliance with the United Kingdom.
