In recent years, Eddie Peng has impressed audiences with his masculinity (男子氣概) in action films.

He has played a gymnast in Jump！Ashin, a boxer in Unbeatable and a policeman in Operation Mekong. To portray these characters, Peng underwent intensive physical and professional training.

But for Peng, the challenge this time wasn’t related to difficult stunts (特技). Differing from his previous films, Peng was given a new identity – a single father of a child.

“I spent a long time persuading myself to play a role as a father,” he told film website 1905. In an interview with host Chen Luyu, Peng revealed that he had only met his father four times as he grew up.

To understand the role, Peng spent a lot of time establishing a genuine emotional connection with Zhang Jingyi, a young actor who plays his son, Congcong. They always ate and played together during breaks. Peng also learned how to communicate with the child of his fitness instructor, who is the same age as Zhang.
